Hi there! I'm Joan, a 24-year-old media designer with over 7 years of experience in the creative field. I've completed my vocational training as a media designer and I'm currently in my 6th semester studying Computer Science and Design at Munich University of Applied Sciences. When I'm not designing or coding, you'll find me in the sky – flying is my passion and ultimate creative escape!
While design and technology are my profession, flying is what truly makes my heart soar. I've been a licensed pilot for three years now, and there's nothing quite like the perspective and freedom that comes from being in the cockpit. Flying helps me think differently about design – it's taught me about precision, planning, and seeing the bigger picture (literally!).
Whether it's taking friends for a scenic flight over Bavaria's lakes, practicing touch-and-goes at local airfields, or planning longer cross-country trips, flying has become an integral part of who I am. It's a hobby that demands constant learning and attention to detail – skills that perfectly complement my design work.
"When I'm flying, I feel the same creative freedom as when I'm designing. Both require technical precision and artistic vision – it's about finding beauty in the technical details."
As a media designer and aspiring computer scientist, I've developed a diverse skill set that allows me to approach creative challenges from multiple angles:
I completed my vocational training at DALTON Marine Cosmetics, a company specializing in innovative cosmetic products. This period was incredibly formative for me, as I learned many practical skills that have supported me throughout my career. The company placed particular emphasis on creativity and techniques that stand out from the crowd.
Following my training, I worked as a working student at Serviceplan in Munich, one of Germany's largest advertising agencies. Here, I was able to deepen my knowledge in media design and project management. Additionally, I completed my practical semester at HENRICHSEN AG in Straubing, where I contributed to exciting design projects for international clients.
My passion for aviation has taken me to incredible places and given me experiences I never thought possible. From my first solo flight to navigating through challenging weather conditions, each flight has taught me something valuable.
I typically fly a Cessna 172, though I've logged hours in a few other aircraft types as well. There's something special about flying over the Alps at sunset or seeing familiar landmarks from 3,000 feet above ground. It gives me a unique perspective that influences my creative work – seeing patterns, appreciating the interplay of light and shadow, and understanding how different elements come together to form a cohesive whole.
If you're a fellow pilot or aviation enthusiast, I'd love to swap stories sometime!
I'm currently on a semester abroad in Hawaii, which has been an incredibly exciting experience. I have the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in computer science and design while gathering new creative impulses. This time in Hawaii is not just an academic challenge but also a personal journey that enriches me both professionally and personally. And of course, flying over volcanic landscapes and pristine beaches has been absolutely breathtaking!
I strive to further develop my career in media design and introduce new technologies and creative ideas to the industry. I'm particularly interested in the connection between computer science and design, as I believe these fields will become even more closely intertwined in the future. I look forward to leading innovative projects that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
The journey I've taken in my career so far is just the beginning. I'm excited about the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. For me, learning means not only acquiring knowledge but also continuous development and the ability to grow with each step. Whether I'm designing a new brand identity or piloting an aircraft, I approach each experience with the same enthusiasm and attention to detail.
